Stow 'n go has bins behind the first row that can be used to fold the second-row seats into the floor. It's more about comfort and safety than carlike precision. Electronic stability control is standard, and the grand caravan has performed well in government crash tests. The handling is a bit cumbersome, not surprising given the grand caravan's size. It doesn't go around corners as well as the honda odyssey and nissan quest do. It leans in hard turns, so drivers will have to be careful not to upset whatever activities are going on in back. three v6 engines are available, including a 4. 0-liter 250-horsepower v6 added for 2008. We found the base 3. 3-liter engine can struggle with freeway on-ramps. The 3. 8-liter engine is acceptable, though we prefer the 4. 0-liter v6 introduced for 2008. The dvd was a snap to play, which is important because some of them, even those in much more expensive vehicles, are not easy to use. The screen drops down from the ceiling and the viewing begins. It comes with wireless headphones. It has jacks to plug in video game systems. It's available with sirius backseat tv, which comes with three kid-friendly channels: disney channel, cartoon network, and nickelodeon. When the dvd screen is deployed, the driver loses.

The front-drive avenger chassis shared with the sebring was designed from the beginning for a convertible as well as a sedan, and that means that it is extraordinarily stiff and strong. It's also designed to meet all of the crash regulations aimed at pedestrian safety and get multiple five-start crash ratings, too. the sibling entry, the chrysler sebring, although it starts at about the same price, is a rounder, more traditional design for a different customer. Optional on the r/t is a 3. 5-liter v6 that makes 235 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque; it uses a six-speed automatic. there are few changes for 2009. Some trim and interior items have received enhancements, 18-inch chrome-clad wheels are available on the r/t, there's a new color, and there have been changes to the options. lineupthe two trim levels for the dodge avenger, the sxt and r/t, are differentiated by appearance and features. That's how they made a dodge out of a chrysler platform. interiorone of the interesting features of the avenger is the chill zone, standard in all models, which uses the car's air conditioning system to cool a bin in the passenger side upper instrument panel. An optional center console cup holder has a two-way switch that will either heat a beverage container up to 140 degrees or cool it down to 40 degrees, a very american feature. the interior environs of the new dodge avenger were quite pleasant in both the sxt and r/t. The front bucket seats are widely adjustable, comfortable, and generally supportive, although the thigh support is lacking for tall drivers. A standard feature on all models is a tilting, telescoping steering wheel, not usually found in this price class, but welcome and useful. the instruments are laid out in an orderly, good-looking array, white on black with chrome trim rings, and the brushed-metal center stack presented no challenges to understanding and use. The rear seat area is adequate, but not more. One thing that may make the rear seat area more inviting is the optional dvd entertainment system with a small swing-up screen mounted at the rear end of the center console. there's plenty of cargo room inside the car with 60/40 split folding rear seats and an optional folding front seat that enables carrying eight-foot-long cargoes. It's extremely solid, and that solidity translates into a quiet cabin, very good suspension isolation, and accurate steering inputs and response. the 3. 5-liter v6 engine in the r/t version we spent the most time in was smooth, quiet, powerful and responsive, and is equipped with a drive-by-wire electronic throttle that enhances smoothness. At a rating of 235 horsepower, this engine is well below the state of the art in power production for 3. 5-liter v6s, but the ultra-smooth six-speed transmission's ratios help the car to feel light and sprightly. It rides smoothly, it's quiet over the road, and it has relatively sporty handling. on the twisting mountain roads north of phoenix, the avenger r/t was a model of good behavior, with typical-for-the-class front-drive understeer, with ride, handing and suspension toward the sporty end of the spectrum, but not far from the middle. Quiet competence personified. the brakes on the r/t are disc/disc with abs, and they worked extremely well, with a nice, progressive action and pedal feel. Anti-lock brakes are not available with the sxt. summarya three-quarter-scale replica of the charger in many ways, the dodge avenger has style, guts, and verve. We really like the way the avenger is styled and put together. It's got real sex appeal, good fuel economy, a nice-looking, functional interior with reasonable family room (although the fast-sloping rear roof doesn't leave a lot of head room or leg room), and a host of interesting options. The dodge avenger is an attractive midsize sedan based off the chrysler sebring. The dodge avenger is offered in two trim levels: sxt or r/t. A 189-hp 2. 7-liter v6 engine is also available for both trims. The r/t can be equipped with a 235-hp 3. 5-liter v6 engine and a six-speed overdrive automatic transmission. Safety features include six airbags, tire pressure monitoring, and a security system. For 2009, the se trim has been eliminated.

Mechanical upgrades improve the heavy-duty rams. introductionthe current generation of dodge ram heavy-duty pickups has been with us for a few years now. Last redesigned for 2003, the dodge ram 2500 and dodge ram 3500 models aren't nearly as new as the latest from ford and general motors. However, they do benefit from constant updating, such as the addition last year of a 2010-compliant diesel engine and six-speed automatic. (the dodge ram 1500 models have been redesigned for 2009 and are covered in a separate new car test drive review.) the 2009 dodge ram hd heavy-duty line benefits from mechanical improvements, a more powerful hemi engine, and a more extensive options list. Choice has been simplified by offering the power wagon only as a quad cab, the ram 3500 only as a diesel, and the hemi v8 only with an automatic transmission. the dodge ram mega cab was created by re-proportioning the relationship between cab and bed on a long wheelbase truck, adding 20 inches to the cab and shortening the bed to 6 feet, 3 inches. The result is acres of cab space, with six seats and plenty of head, shoulder, leg and hip room. Launched as a 2006 model, the extra-large mega cab is aptly named. The back seats are roomy and comfortable with reclining seatbacks, separate rear heating and air conditioning outlets, reading lights and a center armrest with cup holders, and available dvd entertainment; there's space behind the back seats for cargo. Folding down the back seats reveals a huge cargo area (more than 70 cubic feet) with a flat load floor. The rear doors open big and wide, making it easy to load stuff inside. Covered bins are provided back there for storing gear and smaller items, and hooks are provided for hanging things. we found the dodge ram cummins turbo diesel quiet, powerful and responsive. The exhaust brake provides engine braking down long highway grades, thereby leaving the brakes cool, fade-free, and ready for stopping. The diesel's power and fuel economy make it an excellent choice for owners who tow heavy trailers long distances. the ram heavy duty models are equally at home serving solo contractors, landscape crews, or families with big toys, and everyone in between. Options for slt include a power-sliding rear window, a bed liner, powered trailer tow mirrors, sun roof, power adjustable pedals and driver seat, am/fm/6cd/mp3 with infinity speaker, navigation, sirius satellite radio, dvd rear-seat entertainment system, uconnect bluetooth hands-free wireless communication system, bucket seats, yes essentials stain-repellent cloth upholstery, and 17-inch forged aluminum wheels. A part-time electric shift transfer case is available on 4wd models. laramie models add dual-zone climate control, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, heated front seats, security alarm, auto-dimming rearview mirror, chrome moldings and sentry key engine immobilizer. Options on the laramie package include an entertainment system, sun roof, bucket seats, bluetooth, and the navigation radio. the 2500 power wagon quad cab comes with the hemi only, electric-locking front and rear differentials, disconnecting front sway bar, 12,000-pound warn winch, and 32-inch bfgoodrich off-road tires. From the front, its crosshair grille with big chrome collar remains is recognizable as a dodge ram signature. With the front-end restyled for 2008 and a dual-rear wheel option added after introduction, the rear gets attention for 2009 with new taillight styling similar to the dodge durango and dakota. from the side, the mega cab makes an even more dramatic impression. Very long rear doors are unique to the immense mega cab, with a very large area of full roll-down window glass. The dark glass, rear doors and wide pillar suggest a limousine. Expansive interior volume reinforces the impression. Behind this huge cab, the bed looks small, but it remains significantly large: 6 feet, 3 inches in length and 51 inches wide between the wheel wells. The mega cab adds some 22 inches of cab length to what is already a wide cabin, taking second-row spaciousness beyond that of any previous production pickup. The mega cab's rear seats offer 44. 2 inches of legroom, compared with 36. 7 inches for a quad cab. And there is room for the rear seats to recline, tilting up to 37-degrees for added comfort. The rear seats also have their own reading lights and a center armrest with cup holders, plus separate rear air conditioning and heat outlets. dvd entertainment for rear-seat passengers is available, with wireless headsets and integrated game ports. Behind the passengers is a power sliding rear window for flow-through ventilation. Because of the added length of the second-row seating area, the air bag system had to be redesigned with larger side curtain air bags. Each side air bag has its own impact sensor in order to trigger the air bag on the side where impact occurs. from the driver's seat, the view is of a wide center stack with large knobs and buttons, precisely finished with consistent angles and cut lines throughout. The instrument panel cluster is located under a prominent dash brow to reduce glare and improve visibility of six white-faced gauges, the latter numbered on diesel-engine models. Rectangular, slat-type air vents close flush. interior trim is markedly different among the trim levels. In st trim, the dash is textured plastic with synthetic-look inserts on the slt. The laramie package makes extensive use of woodgrain trim inside, with less plastic, for a more distinctive appearance. the seats are generously padded and we found them to be comfortable, especially the six-way driver's seat in the laramie, which can be easily shifted around, which is good because any particular position becomes tiresome on long trips. The leather upholstery adds a rich appearance to the interior of laramie models. with the optional front bucket seats, a new center console extends from the dashboard. In the mega cab, we found a six-foot, three-inch passenger has no problem stretching out completely with the rear seats reclined. A tall rear-seat passenger spent an entire day with us, declining all invitations to move up front. everything about the ram is full size. Even those of us used to operating domestic pickups and tow vehicles are aware of the ram's imposing size and stance.
